New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The Delhi Police today gave away commendation awards and certificates to several 'heroes', including a ragpicker and a vendor, who helped it defuse the bombs and ferrying people to hospitals during the September 13 blasts in the capital.
Commissioner Y S Dadwal gave the commendation certificates at a private function to those who had helped the police in evacuating the blasts sites and carrying the injured to hospitals for treatment.
The Commissioner also gave cash rewards of Rs 50,000 each to the ragpicker and the vendor who identified two live bombs, at India Gate and Regal cinema respectively, and reported it to the police for defusing it.
Certificates identifying them as honorary 'Special Police Officers' (SPOs) were also handed over to them at a private ceremony, said Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat, adding that this was done to avoid endangering their lives through media glare.
Mr Bhagat also told the media that sketches of suspects were still being prepared as the help of various eyewitnesses were being taken.
''The delay is due to the fine-tuning being done as we want the output to be close to perfect.'' Stressing that the blasts probe was progressing in the right direction, he said nothing could be disclosed at this juncture as that could hamper investigations.
