Britney and Timberlake's 'similarities led to their break-up'

Washington, September 15 : Britney Spears' mum, Lynne has revealed that she was shattered after learning about her daughter's break-up with Justin Timberlake, branding the split "terrible."

Writing in her upcoming book "Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World", Lynn insists that it was, perhaps, a clash of personalities that led to their split.

"They were a lot alike - perhaps too similar - and butted their strong wills together too often.", Contactmusic quoted Lynn as saying.

The split left the pop singer heavily affected, but Lynne wishes the two could restore their friendship.

"(The split) was a terrible thing for all involved. I wish they would have parted ways differently, rather than to hurt each other and leave all those scars."

"They have each grown in compassion and maturity. Here's hoping they can be true friends and put any leftover missing puzzle pieces together for good.", she added.

The duo had met on the sets of Disney as children and had been together for four years. They, however, went their separate ways in 2002 on rumours of Britney's infidelity.
