Security stepped up in Mysore for Dasara
Mysore, Sep 14 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in the city in the wake of serial blasts in New Delhi yesterday, for the coming nine-day Mysore Dasara festivities beginning on September 30.
A large number of policemen have been deployed in public places across the city and at tourist spots. Sniffer dogs, bomb disposal squads and metal detection squad were posted at different places in the 'City of Palaces'.
City Police Commissioner Parashivamurthy said additional police personnel have been deployed at sensitive areas, including places of worships.
He said adequate security has been provided at the century-year-old places like Devaraja Market, Mandi Market, K R circle and heritage buildings, besides State and Central Government offices.
Additional security was being provided at tourist spots like Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, Brindavan Gardens and special security at historic sites in Srirangapatna in Mandya district near here, he added.
The strength of police personnel deployed during Dasara festivities would be doubled to 5,000 this year, he added.
