Security beafed up in City of Palaces for Dasara

Mysore, Sep 14 (UNI) Following the Delhi serial blasts, security has been beefed up in and around This city known as 'City of Palaces' in view of the coming nine-day Mysore Dasara festivities beginning on September 30.

The number of policing had been increased in public places across the city and near tourist spots. Sniffer dogs, bomb disposal squads and the metal detection squad had been placed in different places.

City Police Commissioner Dr Parashivamurthy said that additional police personnel had also been deployed at the sensitive areas in the city including places of worships.

He said adequate security has been provided at century year old places like Devaraja Market, Mandi Market, K R circle and heritage buildings, besides the state and central government offices.

Additional security was provided at tourist spots like KRS reservoir, Brindavan Gardens. Special security had been provided at historic sites in Srirangapatna in Mandya district near here, he added.

The strength of police personnel deployed during Dasara festivities would be doubled to 5000 this year, the official added.
