Two people were killed in firing by the security personnel yesterday when a violent mob attacked the CRPF and Rapid Action Force deployed in Kirtanguda.
The problem arose when the security personnel prevented the mob from attacking a place of worship, hospital and the residence of a Sarpanch. The mob pelted stones at the CRPF and one Jawan was hit by a bullet reportedly fired by the mob.
The CRPF retaliated and opened fire to disperse the angry mob in which two persons were killed and some others injured. The CRPF jawan injured in the gun shot was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur after his condition turned critical, police said.
