India bag 11 golds to take pole position in South Asian judo tournam

Kathmandu, Sep 14 (UNI) India bagged 11 gold medals in the fifth South Asian Judo Championship at the Covered Hall of National Sports Council held here, a local daily reported today.

With 11 gold and one silver, India came first, while host Nepal took the second place with two golds, eight silvers and four bronze medals and Afghanistan remained in the third spot with one gold medal, three silvers and two bronze medals in the tournament, which concluded yesterday.

On the final day of the tournament, India's Bir Van won in men's U-55kg category.

In the men's 60kg Bir Bahadur Thapa of India came first defeating Trishna Gurung from host nation Nepal.

India also won a gold in men's 66kg.

The was almost the same in women's 52kg category where Rohini Patil bagged a gold for India defeating Ranju Rai of Nepal.

A total of 39 players including 22 male and 17 female players are participating from four South Asian countries including the host Nepal, India, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the two day tournament.
