Football tournament comprising 160 clubs begins at North 24 Parganas

Barrackpore, Sep 14 (UNI) Local MP Amitabha Nandy has instituted a seven-side football tournament involving barefooted players at Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas.

With 160 clubs participating from nine Municipality areas and one Panchayat during the two-month tournament, which commenced at Baranagar from September 10, around 1,600 youths would be representing their teams in the matches.

A total of 159 matches would be played at the tournament.

Nandy said the trophy had been christened after freedom fighter Shahid Khudiram Bose on the occasion of his 100th year of martyrdom, adding that ''Friendship Trophies'' would be awarded to the winners and runners-up among ten teams in the final phase at Khardah stadium.
