BJP urges Congress to reduce prices of petroleum products
Bangalore, Sep 14 (UNI) The BJP today demanded that the UPA government at the Centre reduce the domestic prices of petroleum products following fall in the prices of oil in the international market.
Former finance minister and senior BJP leader Yeshwanth Sinha, who had moved the Economic Resolution in the three-day National Executive Meeting of the party being held here, criticised Union Petroleum Minister Murali Deora's statement that there would be no reduction in the prices of oil products.
Prices for crude at the international marked had fallen to 100 US dollar per barrel from around 150 US dollar.
''The Petroleum Minister, however, continues to issue statements everyday that prices would not be reduced,''he said.
BJP demanded that the UPA government should reduce the oil prices with immediate effect and provide some relief to the common man.
The BJP also expressed concern over decline in the value of Rupee against the US dollar despite the reduced cost of oil imports.
''The cause of declining value of Rupee despite the slash in crude oil prices was due to manipulators operating in the exchange market, with the full support and blessings of the powerful'', it charged.
