CYG are example of international co-operation: Governor

Panaji, Sep 13 (UNI) Goa Governor Dr S S Sidhu expressed happiness over the participation of young, energetic and enthusiastic sports lovers in Baton Relay.

Relay was a part of the Baton Relay Convoy of the third Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune, which was flagged off from Delhi University on August 1.

After receiving the Baton Governor said, ''I believe events like the Commonwealth Youth Games are excellent examples of international co- operation and participation, relflecting our collective desire to build a global society of enhanced peace and happiness.'' Governor said, we should be proud that India has been bestowed with the privilege of hosting the third Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune from October 12 to 18, and it is the first time in our history that all the 71 Commonwealth countries have confirmed their particiaption in these games. It is a matter of great joy for all sports fans, he added.

Governor also said, it is good that the people of Goa accorded wholehearted support to this mega event all along the route from Patradevi to Margao, where a colourful cultural programme has been organised by local artists.

He also said, international event like Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune, in our neighbouring state of Maharastra would have a positive impact on our sports- loving youth in terms of providing necessary encouragement, motivation and zeal for achieving excellence and glory in their chosen sporting acitivity.
