MP: 2 held for holding banned chemicals
Barwani (MP), Sep 13: Two people, residents of Palasner area of Maharashtra, were arrested and 700 litre banned overproof spirit, which was used as liquor by the tribals, was seized from them in this district's Sendhawa area, police said on Saturday, Sep 13.
Ramcharan and Bholanarayan were held last night. The chemical was seized from a vehicle near Shahpura area while motorcyclists, who accompanied the main vehicle, were fled from the spot.
The chemical was being taken from the place of Palasner-resident Ratilal to Tulara, who hailed from Bhagwanpur area in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Nimar range) P Janrdan told mediaperson here today that the chemical was very dangerous to health.
Tribals termed this chemical as 'Istara' and consumed as alcohol.
About 15 people died here after drinking this spirit in 2006. Later, a ban was imposed on the illegal transportation, collection and distribution of overproof spirit.
