Hyderabad, Sep 12 (UNI) A day after UPA Chairperson and AICC President Sonia Gandhi stoutly defended the Indo-US Nuclear Deal, Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu contended the deal was against the national interest.

Addressing the press here, Mr Naidu alleged the Dr Manmohan Singh Government had mortgaged India's sovereignty to the US by signing the deal.

Referring to Ms Gandhi's meeting at Anantapur yesterday, he alleged the Congress leaders mobilised crowds by luring them with liquor, money and other wrongful means.

He claimed the Congress leaders spent Rs 20 crore on the Anantapur meeting alone creating an impression the party could win elections on money power.

On the contrary, people voluntarily attended the 'Meekosam' yatra he had undertaken recently, he claimed.

He refuted the claim of the Congress leaders on women members of self help groups in the State being benefitted by welfare schemes of the government stating they were trapped in debt by government policies.
