SC upholds closure of school with 4 students, 6 teachers
New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court has approved the decision of the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to close down a Corporation school having four students and six teachers to teach them.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam dismissed the petition challenging the closure of the school.
The judges said there was nothing wrong in the decision of the Corporation since the strength of the students was only four and it was not serving the purpose of imparting education to the students.
The Corporation had decided to close down the school since the strength of the students in the school did not improve at all and the school was virtually improving a liability for the Corporation.
The petition was filed by one D Nagarathinam. who claimed before the apex court that he was prepared to run the school.
