Farmers demand increase in price of peanuts
Shivpuri, MP, Sep 12 (UNI) More than hundred farmers today staged an agitation at agriculture produce market in the district headquarters demanding increase in the price of peanuts.
Some farmers tried to vandalise shops but their attempts were foiled by police.
Police said farmers were irked over peanuts being purchased for Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 600 per quintal. They 'gheraoed' mandi officials and stopped work.
Later, they reached the district administration's farmers office and submitted a memorandum.
According to the officials peanuts were being purchased at less price because it had got dampened.
Agriculturists said the district administration had assured that peanuts would be purchased at a price of Rs 900 per quintal.
