'Vanya' award for MP tribal artists
Bhopal, Sep 12: The Madhya Pradesh government has invited entries by October 15 from tribal artists and sculptors for the award instituted in the memory of Jangarh Singh Shyam, a great exponent of Gond Pradhan tradition of singing.
The award, instituted by Tribal Welfare department undertaking 'Vanya', carried Rs 25,000 in cash and a citation, official sources said.
A resident of Patangarh in tribal-dominated Mandla district, Jangarh Shyam had established a new style of Gond Pradhan painting which has been acclaimed all over the world. The award was instituted as a tribute to the tribal artist who died at an young age.
He had also got the talent of singing and playing on flute , besides painting. He was also deft at sculpture.
Last year, the award was bestowed on Dilip Singh Shyam.
