New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party today staged a walkout from the Delhi Assembly after Speaker Prem Singh rejected their Calling Attention notice over yesterday's incidents of teargassing of farmers agitating outside the House for enhanced compensation for land notified for acquisition.

Though Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit made a statement on the issue immediately after Question Hour, the BJP, leaded by Leader of the Opposition Jagdish Mukhi persisted with their demand that the Speaker admit their Call attention motion on the issue.

The Speaker rejected their notice saying that ''when the Chief Minister has herself made a reply on the issue, then where is the question of moving a Calling Attention notice''.

Earlier, in her statement on the issue, the Chief Minister said eight persons were injured in the incident. She, however, said no arrests had been made in this connection.

Not satisfied by the reply of the Chief Minister, the BJP continued with their demand that the Speaker accept their notice.

The Speaker's refusal led the members of the Opposition BJP to indulge in noisy scenes on the issue. Later, they decided to walk out of the House in protest.

Over 1,000 farmers from Kanjhawala of North-West Delhi gathered near the Assembly premises here yesterday demanding adequate compensation for land that has been notified for acquisition by the government.
