Kangra, Sep 11 (UNI) Teachings of Swami Vivekananda were more relevant today than when he addressed the World Religious conference on this day in 1893 at Chicago, in which he gave call for 'Universal Brotherhood'.
This was stated by Dr Chaman Lal Gupta, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, while addressing a gathering of youths and intellectuals on the occasion of 'Universal Brotherhood day' today.
The function was organised by local branch of Vivekananda Kendra Kaniya Kumari to commemorate the historic speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda in the world religious conference on September 11, 1893.
The highlight of the programme was that the speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda in his own voice was presented through audio Visual techniques before the gathering which was lauded by all with applause.
Dr Gupta said that Swami Vivekananda had expressed apprehensions 115 years ago that religious fanaticism was going to drench the earth with blood which came true when the World Trade centre was smashed.
Dr Gupta stressed on the youth to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda which would keep them close to their cultural roots and religion which was need of the hour. He said that Swamiji was eager to have yoga as apart of the curriculum to make children mentally alert and intellectually sharp.
A declamation contest was organised by the Kendra on the occasion.
