Rahul's visit put CS on toes over flood situation
Lucknow, Sep 11 (UNI) Visit of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to the flood-affected areas of Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh today apparently compelled the state government to send the chief secretary to assess the flood situation in the region.
Chief Minister Mayawati this morning asked Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta to immediately rush to the flood-hit areas at the Indo-Nepal border and monitor relief and rescue measures.
Mr Gupta cancelled all his meeting scheduled for today and air dashed to Maharajganj district and visited the disaster-affected Nithlaul village. He also inspected the maintainence work being undertaken at Gandak barrage on the Indo-Nepal border.
The directive of the CM is seen on the pretext of the visit of Mr Gandhi in the area.
Earlier, Ms Mayawati had removed a senior officials of her secretriate, when her helicopter developed snag, while she was on visit to the calamity-hit regions of eastern UP.
Mr Gandhi, who was on his two-day tour to take stock of the flood situation in Gorakhpur division co-incidently met Samajwadi Party supremo's son and MP Akhilesh Yadav in Deoria and had brief talk with him over the deluge situation in the eastern part of the state.
