By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) Chennai teenager Prajnesh Gunneswaran slayed yet another seed as he stunned second ranked Yuichi Sugita(Japan) in straight sets to set up a semifinal clash with Pakistan's Aqeel Khan in the USD 15,000 ITF men's tournament here today.

Continuing with his giant killing spree Prajnesh, the only Indian left in contention, sent his opponent, who is placed 828 rungs above him, packing 7-6 (4) 6-4 in his quarterfinal tie which lasted 92 minutes.

The left-hander, playing only his fourth ITF Futures main draw, thus earned his first semifinal berth in an international tournament.

The Chennai based player had made it to the quarter finals of a ITF Futures tournament in Spain last month.

In another quarter final,Seventh seed Aqeel Khan, waged a grim battle to overpower Peranamallur-Chandersekhar 6-7(6) 6-4 7-5 in three hours and 27 minutes.

Prajnesh was broken twice early in the first set but fought back superbly to take it to a tie-breaker, which he won 7-4.

The Indian held on to his serve as Yuchi committed unforced errors at crucial juncture in the second set and lost the set and the match.
