Mohun Bagan agree to play their last match vs E Bengal tomorrow

By Staff

Kolkata, Sep 11 (UNI) Aspiring to retain the Sahara Premier Kolkata League, defending champion Mohun Bagan today agreed to play their last tie versus East Bengal tomorrow to complete their league engagement at Yuva Bharati Krirangan at 1500 hours.

Bagan's general secretary Anjan Mitra, who yesterday had threatened to concede the match if the IFA did not reschedule the date, said they would play against East Bengal tomorrow.

This decision came at Bagan's executive body's emergency meeting after the Indian Football Association (IFA) earlier in the day rejected their request for an alternate date.

Bagan, with 30 points from 13 matches are now atop the table followed by Mohamedddan Sporting's 27 points from as many encounters.

Md Sporting have relatively a weak rival- Chirag United- in their last match.

Now, if Bagan draw with East Bengal, they will keep the title and if they lose they will be down by goal difference provided Md Sporting beat Chirag United. Bagan have a goal difference of +13, Md Sporting +1.

If Mohun Bagan lose by one goal, Md Sporting will have to win by a three-goal margin.

After Md Sporting's 4-1 win over Calcutta Port Trust yesterday.

Bagan's Mitra immediately wanted their tie against East Bengal on Saturday and simultaneoulsy Md Sporting's match against Chirag United so that no match was fixed.

East Bengal are out of the contest in the league championship, still they are a powerful force to undo Bagan's aspiration to keep the title.

IFA secretary Utpal Ganguly said since there was not much time for any reschedule of play in view of the coming I-League, the IFA had no opiton but to stick to the present schedule to complete it by Saturday.
