Manipur announces cash award for security forces
Imphal, Sep 11: The Manipur Cabinet has decided to give a cash award of Rs five lakh to the police commandos and Army personnel for their success in the anti-insurgency operation at Loktak lake, Bishenpur district, on Tuesday, in which five top-ranking PREPAK cadres were killed.
Official sources said here today that the decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held late yesterday presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
Five top-ranking cadres of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) Cobra Task Force were killed in an encounter between the militants and a combined force of Manipur police and troops of 57 Mountain Division at Bishenpur district on Tuesday.
Nine sophisticated weapons, including Rocket Launcher, Mortar, Universal Machine Gun, Lathode and a number of assault rifles along with huge quantity of assorted ammunition and war-like stores, were recovered.
The gang was responsible for an attack on the Chief Minister's residence earlier.
