Karnataka govt to take up new irrigation projects
Bangalore, Sep 11 (UNI) Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje today said the state Cabinet has approved new irrigation projects at a cost of Rs 1521 crore in three districts.
She told newspersons here after a Cabinet meeting that the project for setting up a barrage across river Krishna would come up at Jamakhandi in Bagalkot district.
Two lift-irrigation projects would be taken up at Ainapur in Belgaum district and Halyal in Uttar Kannada district, she said.
The Cabinet approved modernisation of Bhadra canal to irrigate an area of 1.5 lakh hectare in the districts of Shimoga, Chikamgalur and Davangere, she said.
Government engineering colleges in the districts of Chikamagalur, Chamarajangar, Bellary and Haveri, she said.
The minister said the Cabinet also gave its approval to construct new hospital buildings in 21 taluks based on the Nanjundappa report.
It also gave its sanction for setting UP a 250-bed hospital in Bangalore city, she said.
