Districts score 240, Dravid falls cheaply, Gujarat 331

Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) Combined Districts XI were off to a fine start against Karnataka XI after scoring 240 and claiming two early wickets, including that of former India captain Rahul Dravid, to have their opponents reeling at 22-2 at stumps on the first day of the All India Buchi Babu cricket tournament quarter finals here today.

Karnataka started their innings on a disastrous note, losing opener K B Pawan for a duck off the second ball of the innings and Rahul Dravid (2) falling to a catch behind the wicket after facing nine balls.

The Districts, who batted first winning the toss, batted out 88.1 of the maximum 90 overs a side with V Subramania Siva top scoring with 62 off 132 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. Suresh Kumar 32(138 balls, three fours, E Suresh (44, 79 balls, four fours) and M K Sivakumar (35, 59 balls, five fours) were the other main scorers.

Suresh and Subramania Siva put on 101 runs for the fifth wicket off 42 overs.

Karnataka's left arm medium pacer Arvind claimed three wickets for 25 runs and left arm spinner C Raghavendra 2-58.

In another match Gujarat, batting first, scored 331 in 69 overs against Hyderabad, riding on a 103 run stand for the fourth wicket between Digant Popat (79, six fours) and the top scorer Sunny Patel(89, six fours). Timil Patel chipped in with a knock of 65 with three fours.
