Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) A day after AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa was re-elected as the Party General Secretary for the sixth term, she has convened the General Council and Executive meeting of the party on September 19.
The General Council is the highest policy making body of the party.
In a statement here today, Ms Jayalalithaa said the meeting, to be held at a Marriage hall in suburban Vaanagaram, would be presided over by Party Presidium Chairman E Madhusoodanan.
She said invitations would be sent to all the Executive and General Council members and appealed to them to attend the meeting without fail.
The meeting being held in the backdrop of ensuing elections to the Lok Sabha, would discuss a host of issues, including the prevailing political situation, both in Tamil Nadu and in the country, Indo-US Nuke deal and the NSG waiver.
Party sources said, since Ms Jayalalithaa had announced that a bigger role was awaiting the AIADMK both at the National and State level, the meeting would pass a resolution authorising her to take a decision on forging alliance with like-minded parties to contest the polls.
A host of issues, including the prevailing power crisis in the state, load shedding resorted to by the ruling DMK, sand quarrying, and the prevailing law and order in the state were expected to domiante the discussions.
During the last General Council, AIADMK Legislator and actor S Ve Shekhar, who was not invited for the meeting, hit the headlines when he rushed to the State Secretariat that had triggered speculations of his resignation.
However, sensing trouble, senior AIADMK leaders, under the direction of the Party High Command, rushed to the Secretariat, and took Mr Shekhar to the General Council meeting, where he met Ms Jayalalithaa and explained to her that he had only gone to the Secretariat to collect some books and not to put in his papers.
