Jammu, Sep 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Department today produced a ''challan'' against an official of the Revenue Department accused of demanding and accepting a bribe, official sources here said.
''Challan was produced against Mangat Ram, Patwari, (revenue official) in Halqa settlement Prahladpur, Jammu in the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu,'' official spokesman told UNI.
He said Mangat was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,800 from one Mr Ajay Kumar Badyal (complainant) on May 4, 2007.
Mr Ajay, resident of Alora, Jammu lodged a written complaint with vigilance department on the same day alleging that Mangat Ram was demanding illegal gratification for issuance of revenue extract of a land which he intended to purchase from Mangat.
A case was registered against Mangat and during investigations, the sleuths of Vigilance Organisation laid a trap in which Mangat was caught demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,800 from the complainant.
Meanwhile the Challan was produced today in the court along with the accused, the spokesman said.
