Prohibitory orders implemented in UP district
Gonda, Sep 10: The district administration has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144, following yesterday's violence in Nawabganj market here.
District Magistrate Muktesh Mohan late last evening implemented the prohibitory orders last evening, following which no procession or assemblies can be held without prior permission, sources said.
The DM also appealed to the people to be calm and maintain peace, else they would be dealt sternly.
Tension had gripped this Uttar Pradesh district yesterday after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists forced shopkeepers to close their shops while protesting the recent attack on BJP MP Yogi Adityanath.
As per the reports, the VHP and Bajrang Dal workers had ransacked shops in Nawabganj locality. The issue later snowballed and two groups of people pelted stones on each other.
The situation could only be brought under control after police reached the spot.
On September 7, Mr Adityanath's cavalcade was attacked in Azamgarh district. One youth had also died in the violence.
Meanwhile, cross cases had been registered against both the parties.
An uneasy calm was prevailing in the district.
