LIC and Indian Navy qualify for semis
Sirsa, Sep 10 (UNI) Life Insurance Corporation and Indian Navy sailed into the semi-final from group B in the Jannayak Ch Devi Lal InternationalTwenty20 Cricket Tournament being played at the JCD National Cricket Academy Stadium here today.
LIC rounded completed their league engagements with two victories and one defeat to qualify for semi-final. Indian Navy, which have already won their two encounters and play Sri Lanka tomorrow to finish their league programme have already ensured a berth in the last four stage with two triumphs. Tomorrow's match for them will be of an academic interest. If they win they will remain not out in their pool and emerge group leaders.
In their last league match today, LIC defeated Saracens Sports Club, of Sri Lanka by five wickets. The fluent win was made possible by an unbeaten 58-run partnership between Vishal Michael (36) and Alok Singh (17) and deadly bowling spell by Man of the Match medium pacer Arun Singh (4 for 17).
Required to score 124 for victory, LIC had a disappointing start as they lost their opener-wicketkeeper Varun Kumar (7) at total of 7 in 1.1 overs. Agnesh Surya (26) and Rohit Chaudhary (20) carried the total to 45 before Rohit was out in 6.2 overs.
