Kalam inaugurates programme on Organ Transplant n Nursing
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today inaugurated an educational programme on Organ Transplant and Different Dimensions of Nursing at Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantonment.
The ten-day educational programme is being organised by Medical and Nursing Officers who have got expertise in various areas of organ transplantation to create awareness among nursing fraternity to various nursing dimensions of organ transplant care in wake of large number of transplants done in the Armed Forces.
It will be attended by Nursing officers from Western Command and nurses from civil institutions.
Dr Kalam while speaking to media during the function said, ''This is unique and first time in India that in-situ Organ Transplant was successfully carried out and life was given to two patients from single door.'' He extended his heartiest compliments to the Army Hospiatal (R&R) stating that this will inspire others to willfully donate organs to give a gift of life to others.
The programme was conceived and executed under the guidance of Lt Gen Yogendra Singh, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt General N K Parmar, Director General Medical Services(Army), Lt General O P Mathew, Commandant AH(R &R), Major General T Padmini, Additional Director General Military Nursing Services.
