Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 10 (UNI) The newly-formed Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) would have a planning and monitoring board, its Vice Chancellor today said.
In an interview with UNI, University Vice Chancellor Apparao said the proposal was waiting for the clearance of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The proposal was likely to receive the sanction within a week.
Meanwhile, plans were underway to appoint senior Professors as Registrar, Rector and Dean on ad hoc basis.
Prof Apparao said he would introduce the culture of organising national and international seminars for the benefit of the students.
''The JNTU here is somewhat lagging in research work. Hence, I shall give the major thrust on research in the fields of energy, petroleum products, agricultural engineering making the best use of the information technology to harness the advancements in various fields,'' he said.
Since hydro-carbon reserves were fast depleting, he was aiming at giving a fillip to the research on alternative energy sources such as wind enregy, solar energy and tidal energy getting the expertise from abroad, he added.
