CPM concerned over indiscriminate arrests in Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 10 (UNI) Expressing concern over the alleged indiscriminate arrests and harassment of youths by the security forces in the Kashmir valley, the Communist Party of India (Maxist) today said such measures would further alienate the people.
In a statement here, CPI (M) state Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Targami said he was concerned over the reports coming from different parts of the valley that the security forces were committing excesses, arresting youths and harassing them.
This, he said, will further widen the gap and have negative impact on the peace process.
Mr Targami said dozens of delegations from different parts of the valley visited his office today and complained about the security forces' excesses.
People, mostly youths, who had participated in the recent agitation were particularly being targeted by the security forces, the delegation has alleged.
Mr Targami said history is witness that whenever confrontation attitude was adopted by the authorities, situation further worsened.
He demanded immediate halt to indiscriminate arrests and harassment of youths by the security forces so that peace is restored.
