Catholic protestors arrested for harrasing education minister
Mangalore, Sep 10 (UNI)Police arrested a group of Catholic leaders, when they tried to gherao the Primary and Secondary education minister Vishwanath Hegde Kageri at the Circuit House here today.
The protesters, numbering about 100 led by Mangalore Diocesan Catholic Sabha President Lancy D'Cunha and Congress leader Ivan D'Souza were protesting the minister's action of instructing the deputy directors of public instruction functioning at district level, to issue notices to educational institutions run by Catholic organisations who have closed down on August 29 as a mark of protest against the atrocities unleashed upon Christians in Orrisa.
Mr Kageri was in the city to participate in a seminar organised at Ramakrishna Ashram. The minister, who arrived in the city on Tuesday night, was staying at the Circuit House.
