Army returns land to state govt
Aizawl, Sep 10 (UNI) The Army today returned a large area of land on the outskirts of the state capital, occupied by the security forces in the wake of insurgency in Mizoram since the late 1960s, to the state government.
The Army handed over the passes of the Brigade Ground at Bawngkawn, land occupied by Millitary Engineering Service at Thuampui, Millitary Hospital and the land occupied by Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of the Army in Falkland area to Aizawl DC C Thanchhuma in a simple ceremony at Brigade Ground.
On behalf of the Army, Col Ashok Mukherjee, Col C R K Singh and assistant executive engineer of Silchar F A Ahmed put their signatures.
The total area of the land returned is 112.485 acres. The land will be further handed over to the state's land revenue and settlement department by the Aizawl DC.
