Lucknow, Sep 9 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress today demanded a high level probe into the state government's plantation drive scam to the tunes of Rs 409 crore in the Bundelkhand region.
The party will also urge the Union Rural Development Ministry to go for a special audit of the funds alloted to the state under the National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (NREGA) as the state government had siphoned Rs 219 crore on the name of fake 10 crore plantation drive.
As per the reports, even though the UP government had already initiated a probe into the irregularities, the Congress has decided to register an FIR over the same.
UP Congress committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here that in their survey, it was found that a large scale bungling was done by the forest and other concerned departments in the name of plantation in seven districts of Bundelkhand region in July-August.
''Above all, it was unfortunate that the government did not pay the labourers under the NREGA scheme, however funds were withdrawn for the same'', she asserted.
The Congress leader further said it was also learnt during the inspection that the sapplings were lesser than the figures quoted by the government and claimed that no proper arrangement had been made for the survival of these sapplings.
