Mizoram trounce Meghalaya 3-0 in Subroto Cup opener

New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) A spectacular opening ceremony led by colourful fly past of IAF helicopters, gymnastic displays by Motilal Nehru School of Sports, RAI, Sonepat, aero modelling by the NCC cadets marked the start of the Subroto Cup Football tournament 2008 at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium here today.

The pre-quarterfinals of the tournament commenced soon after the opening ceremony in which Govt Central Hr Sec School, Mizoram defeated St John Sec School, Meghalaya 3-0.

H Lalmuankima, Joseph Ramdinmawaia and H Lanmufela scored a goal each in the 28th min, 46th min and 70th min, respectively.

AVSM VSM Air Officer-in-charge Air Marshal J N Burma and Sports Education Society Vice Chairman Subroto Mukerjee were present on the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Team members of Switzerland (U-14), F C Kusnaught, were also introduced to the Chief Guest. They will play a few exhibition matches and would be conducting clinics for the other participating teams.

The tournament ends on September 25.
