Kochi, Sep 9 (UNI) Kerala women's team captain Mayookha Johny today broke the meet record in Triple Jump at the 48th Open National Athletics Championship, leaping to a distance of 13.54m at the Maharaja's College Ground here.

Mayookha, a student of BBA at Brenden College in Thalaserry in north Kerala, bettered the meet record of 13.35 m set by Mahisha Dey of RSPB.

The national record stands in the name of Anju Bobby George at 13.67 m.

Talking to reporters after the event, Mayookha said that she had come to the championship aiming to break the national record.

However, the heavy rains during the day had made that difficult.

Anisha K Vijayan and Kulvinder Kaur, both of police, bagged the silver and bronze, covering 13.22 m and 12.92 m respectively.

In another golden moment for hosts Kerala today, V S Sandhya walked to the first position in the women's 20000 m with a time of 1:51:37.30, ahead of Supriya Adak of Railways who timed 1:53:11.90 to bag the silver and Anita Kumari of Rajasthan who got the bronze with a time of 2:02:07.90.
