Varanasi, Sep 9 (UNI) A four-day Indian Carpet Expo, the country's largest extravaganza on handmade carpets and floor coverings, is scheduled to being here from October 17.
The expo would be organised by Carpet Export Promotion Council under the aegis of Government of India.
''The well established and worldwide acclaimed India Carpet Expo is all set to receive overseas customers from all over the world to witness the heartening, catchy, cozy, bizarre of antique, modern, contemporary and trend setting display of indian handmade carpets from every carpet producing corner of the country,'' Carpet Export Promotion Council Chairman Ashok Jain said here last night.
Mr Jain claimed that the expo would open new business avenues for small manufacturers -- exporters of handmade carpets. He said the prime motive of the council was not only to bring the largest business opportunity to all segments of carpet manufacturers and exporters, but also provide unique pick and choose business opportunity to all overseas carpet buyers, including retailers and wholsalers under one roof.
Over 30 lakh people are engaged in the carpet industry.
The carpet belt of Bhadohi-Mirzapur exported carpets, rugs and druggests worth Rs 3524.73 crores during the last financial year.
The export is expected to touch Rs 4,000 crore mark in the current financial year.
