HP to spend Rs 1200 cr on irrigation, drinking water projects

Dharmshala, Sep 9 (UNI) The Himachal government would spend Rs 147.15 crore for constructing Fina Singh Canal from Chacki Khad for providing better irrigation facilities in Malakwal and Sadwan areas, Irrigation and Public Health Minister Ravinder Ravi said here today.

The preliminary formalities in this direction have already been completed so that the work on the project starts soon.

He said Rs 1200 crore would be spent on the construction of the irrigation and drinking water projects during the current year in the state and besides this 2000 hand pumps would be dug in the draught affected areas too.

He said that in order to boost the crop production in the state, check dams would be constructed on the rivers and khads to provide irrigation facilities so that the farmer could develop new crops and boost their economy.

He said that government would also take effective steps to curb the misuse of the drinking water by the consumers.
