Panaji, Sep 8 (UNI) A unique and patented high-end equipment of Spain, 'EyeMade', which has the potential to develop ''eye footprint'' of every customer to help facilitate tailor-made progressive lenses, will be introduced in India.

A joint agreement to this effect was signed today by Spanish multinational optical group, Indo, with the Goa-based GKB Opthalimcs Limited for commercialising its optical and opthalmic products in Asia. The joint venture, christened ''Indo Prime Visual Technologies Private Limited'', will be a 50-50 per cent partnership with an equity capital of Rs one crore.

As per the agreement, specialised progressive lenses for the customers could also be manufactured on the basis of the computerised information generated by the equipment to suit different occasions in Europe and other developed countries.

The high precision equipment and quality products, including looking glasses and prescription lenses, would be manufactured at the Goa facility which, in turn, will outsource them to meet the galloping demand for the products in Asia, Indo's Chief Executive Officer Antoni Olvella Cunhil and K G Gupta of GKB told mediapersons in a joint newsconference here.

Initially, the Indo Group would supply state-of-the-art equipment to Goa for manufacture of high-precision progressive lenses for the frames. The equippment has a huge market potential in Asia. In due course, the equipment would be assembled and spares would be manufactured in Indian facility for marketing, the duo said.

Mr Antoni said specialised progressive lenses could also be manufactured to suit different occasions for the customers like in Europe and other developed countries.

He, however, hastened to add that the company had no plans to enter medical sector to manufacture ''lense implants'' used in opthalmic surgeries like cataract operations.

The joint venture, he said, was aimed at training the manpower in India apart from introducing its state-of-the-art machinery.

The Indo, which has set a worldwide benchmark for visual satisfaction in the field of opthalmic lenses since inception in 1937, has its presence in many countries including China and Singapore.
