Six Govt home inmates escapes after murdering teacher

Thanjavur, Sep 8 (UNI) Six inmates of the Government Observation Home here today escaped after murdering their teacher.

Police said there were 135 delinquents in the home. Six of them escaped after attacking their agricultural teacher Munusamy (55) with a spade while other staff of the home were attending a meeting.

Munusamy who suffered head injury, fainted and the boys after dragging his blood soaked body threw it in a pit dug up by them and covered it with tree branches before escaping from the scene of crime, by scaling the high compound wall.

Some other inmates who saw the body of their teacher, informed about it to Rathinam superintendent of the house. Munusamy was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital (TMCH) but he was declared 'brought dead', police said.

Police said the six escapees were identified as G Selvam (15) of Mugavur in Virudhunagar district, S Carl Marx (17) of Kumbakonam, P Singaravelu (13) of Panaimedu of Nagapattinam district, S Venkatesan (17) of Kudavasal, G Dhandayudhapani (15) of Idaiyathi and R Ramesh (15) of Poompukar. However, Singaravelu and Dhandayudhapani were nabbed police said adding efforts are on to nab the other four.

The superintendent of the Home said the teacher was taking the six boys to a workshop when the incident occurred. ''I was on a routine inspection after convening the meeting of other staff when some boys came running and informed me about it. The injured teacher was taken to the TMCH, where he was declared 'brought dead'.
