Islamabad, Sep 8 : Pakistani armed forces and judiciary would be made more accountable under a new accountability mechanism, according to reports.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted a committee headed by Law Minister Farooq H. Naek to work out the new system, which will be introduced after the National Accountability Ordinance of 1999 in repealed.

There was no provision in the ordinance to deal with corruption in the judiciary and armed forces.

According to Interior Ministry sources, the new law would abolish the accountability courts functioning under the Law Ministry and corruption references would be filed in sessions courts, The News reported.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) would handle corruption cases of government employees, the sources said.

The sources said the National Accountability Bureau was likely to be renamed as national accountability commission or national commission for accountability.

Cases of corruption by politicians would be referred to the commission.
