Lawson makes abrupt departure to Australia

Lahore, Sep 8 (UNI) Amid things not working right for the Pakistan cricket, PCB's national coach Geoff Lawson today left for his hometown without making any announcements.

There was, however, no PCB official available to comment on why Lawson and the Australian trainer with the national team David Dwyer left suddenly for Sydney, but sources close to the Board said, ''They had gone on a 10-day vacation.'' It is important to note that the former Australian pacer has spent around two weeks at home last month, after visiting Australia and New Zealand with the ICC task team to convince players and officials back home to tour Pakistan for the high-profile Champions Trophy, which was later postponed till October next year.

''In the last few days, Lawson has apparently spoken to a senior PCB official about his contract that lasts till August, 2009. He might have gone home to have a talk with his family and friends to decide his future as Pakistan coach,'' a source said.

Two days back, Lawson had stated that he was not worried about his future with the Pakistan team as he had lot of lucrative offers waiting he can go back to some other important job back home any time he likes.

He also has said his job is not linked with resignation of Nasim Ashraf as the PCB Chairman, who was the biggest supporter of the Australian.

However, speculations has been raised about Lawson's relations with the Board, after he left for his hometown abruptly, as sources said, ''There might be more to Lawson and Dwyer's departure for Australia given the existing circumstances in Pakistan cricket''.

''There is lot of confusion in Pakistan cricket over the fate of the current set up after the resignation of the Chairman and with the sports ministry now interfering a lot in cricket affairs,'' a source added.
