New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Six people, including a Delhi Police Constable, died and five others were injured when a speeding truck-trailer lost control and hit several vehicles in Timarpur area of North Delhi.
Most of those killed were dragged upto some distance after being crushed, said a senior police official.
The scene of accident, at Wazirabad traffic signal, was gory and terrible, he said adding that bodies and limbs lay scattered with blood splattered all over.
The accident took place around 2315 hrs last night when the speeding truck-trailer hit several vehicles from behind and impacted about ten people standing there. The truck was registered in Haryana and belonged to 'Transage Services Limited'.
Five ambulances rushed the victims to three hospitals -- Trauma Centre, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Tirathram Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Constable Balkar Singh, Mathura Prasad (25), Virender Yadav (28), Altab Ahmed Qureshi (22), Raju and auto driver Vipin Kumar (22).
Head Constable Mitthan Lal and Constable Pradeep Kumar were also injured in the accident and were later discharged from the hospital after first aid.
The truck driver and cleaner fled after the incident and search is on to nab them.
A case of rash and negligent driving under Section 304-A (causing death by rash and negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Timarpur police station.
