Thrissur, Sep 8 (UNI) CPI Secretary rptg CPI Secretary C K Chandrappan, MP, today demanded that the Centre use Article 356 of the Constitution to dissolve the Orissa Government to restore peace in the state.
Mr Chandrappan, who was part of the four-member team of Left party MPs which visited Orissa recently, told a press conference here that the Centre and the state government had not taken any responsibility to protect a minority community from atrocities and to restore peace.
Describing the situation in the state as ''terrifying,'' he said the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister should visit Orissa.
The CPI leader also demanded a CBI inquiry into the violence and deployment of army.
Mr Chandrappan claimed that more than 50 minority community members had been killed in Orissa and more than 50,000 fled to the forests for safety.
He demanded that the government announce an adequate compensation and rehabilitation package for those those who lost their kin and property.
