New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Congress today said it was not against the holding of the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir on time if the ground situation warranted so.
However, it was for the state government and the Union Home Ministry to assess the situation, AICC General Secretary in charge of Media Veerappa Moily told mediapersons.
He said the Congress would not come in the way of holding of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on time if the Governor made a recommendation to that effect.
Asked about the report that the Centre was in favour of delaying the state assembly elections in the state, Mr Moily said, "In a set up like the Jammu and Kashmir, there is no question of the Centre dictating terms to the state administration." Elections to the state assebly are due in Jammu and Kashmir in November this year.
