Hyderabad, Sep 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today approved allotment of land for two private thermal power projects in Srikakulam district, and granted exclusive rights to the Krishnapatnam port company on the northern side up to 30 KM.
Talking to newspersons after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Information Minister A Ramanarayana Reddy said the Cabinet gave its nod for allocated 3,332 acres of land to the East Coast Energy Company for generating 2600 MW of power and 97,269 acres of land to the Nagarjuna Construction company for 1980 MW thermal project.
Revising the concessional agreement, the Government gave exclusive rights within 30 KM on either side of the proposed VANPIC Port in Vadervu for developing a new sea port, he said adding that fishermen rights would be protected at any cost.
The first phase of the project would cost Rs 1200 crore and handle 25 million tonnes of cargo through four berths while the second phase would cost Rs 1500 crore and handle an additonal 35 million tonnes of cargo through five more berths, he said and added that a container terminal would be created in the next phase.
The port was provided with a four lane road, which would be later made six lanes upto the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. A dedicated rail link would be provided in the first phase upto Venkatachalam and in the second phase up to Obulavaripalli at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore, he said.
