Pratibha Patil flags off Amravati-Mumbai Express

Amravati, Sep 7 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today flagged off Amravati-Mumbai Express train and laid the foundation stone for the Model Railway Station, saying it would be economic prosperity for the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

She said two more trains to Nagpur and Surat would also be launched from Amravati tomorrow.

Describing it as a historic moment, the President said it is fulfillment of her long-cherished dream. She said this would not only bring economic development but also provide facilities to the people of the region.

It will help in speedy industrialisation of the region mainly on agriculture. Moreover, the people going to Nagpur, Mumbai and Surat will also benefit from this train. It would reduce pressure on the road transport, pollution, road accidents and expenditure on costly fuel. It would also bring a faster, cheeper and secure mode of transport.

Conversion of Amravati Railway Station to Model Railway Station, would provide a new platform and other facilities to passengers.

She said the conversion of Amravati-Markhed is going at fast speed.

Ms Patil also lauded Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for bringing train facilities to the people of Vidarbha on the occasion of Ganesh Puja. She said due to his efforts and leadership, the railways have earned a profit of Rs 70,000 crore in the last four years. He has also established a number of management institutions all over the world.

The Railway Minister announced that he would soon provide a Garib Rath for the people of Amravati. He said he will make sure to increase the frequency of the Amravati-Mumbai Express train which at present operates twice a week.

He said in all the four railway budgets, the train fare was never increased and he assured that air-conditioned Garib Rath will be launched for the poor people of Amravati.

On this occasion, MP from Amravati Anant Rao Gudhe, Kerala Governor R S Gavai and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh were also present.
