Bhind, MP, Sep 7: Two notorious dacoits, who unleashed terror in the border areas of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, were gunned down in the police encounter at Behad, near Jawasa village in this district early today.
Acting on a tip-off the police team rushed to the spot where the dacoit gang was camping and cordoned off the area last night, Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh said.
Sensing the presence of police, the dacoits started firing which was retaliated by the police. Dacoits--Ramlakhan Baghel and Ramhit Baghel-- were killed in the encounter that lasted for about one hour, Mr Singh said, adding that earlier six dacoits had managed to escape in the nearby jungle and an intense search was on to nab them.
Mr Singh said two twelve-bore guns and hundred live cartridges were also recovered from their possession.
The Madhya Pradesh government had announced an award of Rs fifteen thousand on the arrest of the duo, who were the residents of Rajasthan's Gholpur and member of the infamous dacoit Jagjivan Parihar gang, he said. Several cases of murder, loot and kidnapping were also pending against the deceased, the SP added.
