Amritsar, Sep 7 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) seized four kg heroin after shooting dead a drug carrier and nabbing another near Border Outpost (BOP) Rajatal in the Amritsar sector in the wee hours today.
Giving details BSF officials said that BSF jawans on night duty opened fire on two persons who were seen moving about near the barbed wire fence, killing one of them and apprehending the other.
The two had gone to collect packets of heroin which had been thrown over the barbed wire fence by Pakistani smugglers who had intruded into Indian territory.
The BSF jawans were also fired upon by the Pakistani intruders who used .12 bore guns and then fled back to their territory. On search of the area, four packets of heroin each weighing one kg were recoevered while eight live .12 bore cartridges were found on the other side of the fence.
The killed drug carrier was identified as Soni, a resident of Chogawan village while the other was identified as Partap a resident of Chheratta town, a suburban of Amritsar city. The two had gone to retrieve the heroin packets and they were to transport the drug to Amritsar city and then take it to Delhi.
On intimation from the BSF, the Punjab Police registered a case under the NDPS Act at the Serai Amanat Khan police station. Further investigations are on in the case.
The DRI had yesterday seized six kg of heroin from near Ludhiana when it was being transported to Delhi while on Thursday last 54 kg heroin was seized by the DRI in Tarn Taran district.
