Ranchi, Sep 6 (UNI) At least ten people were killed and over 50 injured in two different incidents in Jharkhand today.
Seven people were killed and more than 50 injured when they were engaged in illegal mining at Mugma under Nirsa police station in Dhanbad.
Police remained tightlipped over the incident as local MP Chandreshwar Singh, who rushed to the accident site, expressed his concern over the unabated illegal mining in the locality.
The MP held the police responsible for the incident saying the illegal mining went on ''in connivance with them (police).'' According to eyewitnesses, about seven bodies were recovered.
Last night, about 65 people entered the tunnel of a closed mine of Eastern Coalfield Limited for illegal mining and at dawn it suddenly caved in.
Local people, who were involved in rescue operation, refused to give any details about the incident.
In another incident, three labourers were killed when their tractor fell into a 50-foot deep gorge near Nawalsahi under Markachchu police station, about 25 km from Koderma district.
The accident took place at about 1400 hours when the tractor, carrying drilling materials to a stone mine, lost control because the road was soiled and muddy, police said.
Two of the deceased were identified as Birendra Majhi (22) and Basudev Majhi (23). Police said the identity of the third was yet to be ascertained.
