Shimla, Sep5 (UNI) The Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly staged a walkout today, demanding discussion on the alleged lathicharge on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) teachers.
CLP leader Vidya Stokes, who raised the matter after the Question Hour, demanded that their Adjournment Motion in this regard be accepted, which was disallowed by Speaker Tulsi Ram.
At this, all opposition members came into the well of the House and started slogan shouting and noisy scene continued for about an hour. However, the Speaker conducted the proccedings amid noisy scenes.
When the speaker did not concede to their demand of accepting the adjournment motion, the opposition members walked out of the House.
Later, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal denied that police had carried out the lathicharge on PTA teachers outside the Sabha Assmbly.
He said that PTA teachers were not government employees as their services were hired by Parent Teacher Association. As many as 6500 PTA teachers in the state were recruited by the previous government.
He said fistful section of the PTA teachers had been protesting in a bid to stop the inquiry being conducted against them in order to acertain their elegibility.
