N Deal: Maya demands P M's resignation over latest developments
New Delhi, Sept 6 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today demanded the resignation of the Manmohan Singh Government in the wake of the latest media revelation about the US stand, linking the supply of uranium and enrichment technologies to India not conducting nuclear tests.
She also described as ''misleading'' yesterday's statement of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, given while the Nuclear Suppliers Group meeting was going on.
''The Prime Minister and his Government has kept the whole nation and Parliament in the dark about the conditions involved in the Indo-US civil nuclear energy deal, so he has no moral right to remian in office,'' Ms Mayawati said addressing a news conference here.
The present Congress leadership had completely deviated from the independent nuclear policy their leaders had followed after the country's independence. They did not accept the conditions involved in the signing of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty because it was discriminatory, she said.
Ms Mayawati sought to stress that her party had been from the very beginning maintaining that unless the entire facts regarding the nuclear deal were disclosed to the nation, the UPA Government should take no further step.
They neither took the people into confidence nor the main political parties but went ahead, she added.
